Planning a Cruise on Azamara Cruises

Azamara Cruises is a great fit for:

  • Travelers seeking peace and quiet
  • Guests who appreciate excellent cuisine and service
  • Those who love exploring multiple cities, especially with late departures and overnight stays

Azamara might not be the best fit for:

  • Families traveling with young children

Azamara Cruises caters to travelers who value intimacy, smaller ships, and a destination-focused experience where culinary excellence is just as important as the journey itself.

Positioned between mainstream cruise lines and ultra-luxury brands like Explora Journeys and Silversea, Azamara offers an appealing middle ground. Prices start at around $1,800 per guest - slightly higher than lines such as Celebrity Cruises, yet still significantly more affordable than ultra-premium options like Seabourn.

The fleet consists of just four ships, all nearly identical in layout and experience, with only a few subtle differences. Originally acquired from another cruise company, each vessel has undergone multi-million-dollar refurbishments, transforming them into elegant, boutique-style ships designed to cruise the world. These are smaller ships, accommodating up to 700 guests, which helps maintain a serene, refined ambiance throughout the voyage.

And don’t forget, our team at Famvia is always here to help you plan your perfect trip, answer any questions, and handle your Azamara booking from start to finish. Just click that Request a Quote button! Contacting us is free, and best of all, you never pay extra for booking with a trusted travel advisor like us. In fact, you might even unlock exclusive perks, like special offers on Azamara sailings, unique deals available only through our experts, and rewards you can use toward your next incredible journey.

Azamara’s ships tend to attract a more mature audience, typically aged 60 and up. Entertainment is all about piano bars, live music in intimate venues, and nightly trivia, eschewing large-scale productions, waterparks, or flashy attractions. Each ship features a single pool surrounded by ample deck space with loungers and quiet corners so you can grab a book and relax.

Azamara’s itineraries are all about variety and unique destinations. Because their ships are smaller, they can visit ports that larger cruise lines simply can’t reach. Even better, Azamara often offers late departures and overnight stays in select ports, something you don’t see very often in the cruise world. This gives guests more time to explore each place in depth, whether it’s enjoying dinner ashore or catching a local performance.

Another great feature is their AzAmazing Evenings program, a complimentary perk that takes guests inland for special cultural experiences. These might include live concerts, local festivals, or other memorable moments that help you connect with the destination. If you enjoy visiting places that are off the beaten path and want more time to truly explore, Azamara Cruises is definitely worth considering.

Azamara includes a number of thoughtful perks in your cruise fare, though it doesn’t offer a fully all-inclusive experience like Silversea or Explora Journeys. Gratuities are covered, self-service laundry machines are complimentary, and a good selection of beverages - such as beer and soft drinks - is also included, and suites get personal butler service. However, extras like Wi-Fi, premium cocktails, wine by the glass, and full-service laundry do come at an additional cost.

The food onboard consistently receives high praise, and service is often described as exceptional. If you browse guest reviews, you’ll notice that many travelers rave about the quality of the Main Dining Room, so much so that some guests choose to skip the specialty restaurants altogether. With a strong crew-to-guest ratio, service feels personal and attentive. Don’t be surprised if, by day two, your bartender greets you by name and already knows your drink order.

If you're looking to sail with a premium cruise line, enjoy excellent cuisine, and unwind in a calm, intimate setting, Azamara is a fantastic choice. They’re also a great option if you're passionate about exploring new cultures, visiting a variety of cities, and making the most of each destination along the way.

Thinking about sailing with Azamara sometime soon? Just send us a message! We’d be happy to help you plan the perfect voyage.

Azamara Cruises Reviews

The Good

Peace & Quiet: Azamara is an excellent choice for travelers who appreciate the charm of classic cruising, where the atmosphere is calm, uncrowded, and refined throughout the ship. These voyages tend to attract a more mature audience, often in their 60s and beyond, who enjoy leisurely activities like card games, live piano music, and evening trivia. You’ll rarely find young children onboard, which contributes to the overall sense of tranquility.

Luxurious… without breaking the bank: Azamara offers a more refined and upscale experience than mainstream cruise lines, yet comes at a more approachable price point compared to ultra-luxury brands. It's an ideal middle ground for travelers looking to add a touch of romance and elegance to their journey, without the steep price tag. For example, you can often find 6-night Caribbean sailings starting around $1,600 per guest, which is excellent value considering everything that’s included.

AzAmazing Evenings: This exclusive program is a standout feature of Azamara Cruises. AzAmazing Evenings are complimentary tours where staff take you inland to experience authentic local culture. Whether it’s a tango performance in Buenos Aires, a Carnival party in Rio, an elegant Venetian mask party, or other unique events, these evenings offer unforgettable cultural immersion.

Some included perks: While Azamara Cruises isn’t fully all-inclusive, they do offer several valuable perks to enhance your experience. Gratuities are included, along with soft drinks and select alcoholic beverages such as beer. Suite guests enjoy the added luxury of a private butler, and the acclaimed AzAmazing Evenings cultural experiences are also part of your base fare. Even self-service laundry facilities are complimentary.

The Bad

Not for children: Azamara Cruises isn’t the best fit for families traveling with young children. There are very few kid-focused amenities or entertainment options onboard, and the overall atmosphere is geared more toward adults, with most guests typically aged 60 and older. If you're looking for a great experience that's more family-friendly, options like Explora Journeys or Celebrity Cruises may be a better match.

How Much is a Cruise on Azamara Cruises?

Azamara sits in a unique position when it comes to pricing. It’s more refined, and slightly more expensive, than mainstream cruise lines like Celebrity Cruises, yet still more affordable than ultra-luxury brands.

Here are a few sample starting prices to give you an idea:

  • 6-Night Caribbean Cruise: from $1,600 per guest
  • 12-Night Alaska & Japan Cruise (2026): from $1,700 per guest
  • 11-Night Mediterranean Cruise: from $1,700 per guest
  • 10-Night Greece Intensive Voyage: from $2,400 per guest
  • 14-Night Eastern Caribbean Voyage: from $3,000 per guest

As you can see, pricing varies widely depending on the region, length of the itinerary, and time of year. Some cruises are even priced similarly to premium sailings with lines like Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas, while other itineraries are definitely more expensive.

Azamara Cruises Fleet and Destinations

Azamara Cruises Italy Ship.webp
Azamara Cruises©

Azamara operates a fleet of just four ships: Azamara Quest, Azamara Journey, Azamara Pursuit, and Azamara Onward. These are considered small to mid-sized vessels, each accommodating around 600 to 710 guests. You won’t find casinos, waterslides, or waterparks here, since these ships are designed for travelers who value peace, quiet, and cultural exploration.

All four ships share a similar layout and offer a consistent onboard experience. Each one features a Main Dining Room, a buffet, a few casual snack spots, and two specialty restaurants available at an additional cost. You’ll also find a single main pool, several suite categories, and inviting public spaces that let you relax.

Here’s when each ship was last refurbished:

  • Azamara Onward: 2021
  • Azamara Journey: 2019
  • Azamara Pursuit: 2018
  • Azamara Quest: 2016

These updates have helped turn Azamara’s ships into elegant, boutique-style vessels that focus on comfort and unique destinations above all else.

Azamara Cruises Destinations

Azamara may have just four ships, but their global presence is impressive. You’ll find them sailing across the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and beyond. They’re also making a much-anticipated return to Alaska in 2026, a region where they’ve been highly praised in the past.

Here are Azamara’s main destinations:

  • Europe (very popular)
  • Alaska (returning in 2026, popular)
  • Americas & Caribbean (popular)
  • Africa
  • Antarctica
  • Asia
  • Oceania
  • Canada
  • Transoceanic Voyages

Azamara is also known for offering what they call “Intensive” Voyages. These are itineraries that focus deeply on a specific region, such as Greece or Italy. These sailings often include extended port times and overnight stays, giving you the freedom to fully explore a city at your own pace.

Azamara Cruises Ports of Call

Here are some of the main ports of call featured on Azamara Cruises itineraries:

  • North America: Fort Lauderdale, Miami, New York, San Diego, Vancouver, Whittier.
  • Europe: Barcelona, Athens, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Rome and Southampton.
  • Other: Sydney, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong.

For a complete list of ports of call, make sure to visit this website.

Activities onboard Azamara Cruises

Azamara Cruises live show.webp
Azamara Cruises©

Azamara takes a more classic approach when it comes to onboard entertainment. Instead of high-energy productions and large-scale shows, you will find intimate live performances, piano bars, trivia nights, lecture sessions, board games, and the occasional table tennis tournament. Small musical acts are the norm here, not Broadway-style productions with elaborate sets and acrobatics. And for the kind of cruise experience Azamara offers, that feels just right.

Each Azamara ship features four live shows, and some ships share the same lineup. These are modest yet enjoyable performances designed to suit the relaxed and elegant atmosphere onboard. You will not find big-name productions like The Wizard of Oz from Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, but you will find entertainment that matches the pace and style of your voyage.

Trivia is especially popular on Azamara. Another favorite is the White Night Dance Party, where everyone dresses in white and gathers on the pool deck for a lively evening of music, drinks, and great food.

Dress Code onboard Azamara Cruises

Azamara Cruises maintains a Resort Casual dress code throughout their ships, whether it is morning or evening. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, but there are a few guidelines to keep in mind, especially when dining in the Main Dining Room or specialty restaurants.

Here is how Azamara describes their dress code:

“In keeping with our friendly yet sophisticated onboard environment, we encourage guests to follow a ‘resort casual’ dress code.

Out of respect for others, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps, bathing suits, shorts, and torn or distressed jeans are not allowed in the dining room or specialty restaurants. When dining at Windows Café, guests must wear footwear and a cover-up or shirt.

Formal evening wear is not expected nor required in our restaurants. If you prefer to dress more formally, you are welcome to do so. Please note that tuxedo rentals are not available onboard.”

Rooms

Azamara’s ships feature four main accommodation categories.

Inside cabins offer cozy spaces without windows, measuring roughly 158 square feet. Outside cabins provide fixed windows and are about 143 square feet in size. Balcony cabins include private outdoor decks with sliding glass doors, perfect for enjoying the view. Suites are larger versions of balcony cabins, offering additional amenities and privileges like a private butler.

Each ship also has a selection of cabins specially designed to accommodate guests who use wheelchairs or scooters.

Dining

Dining onboard Azamara Cruises is  superior to what you’ll find on mainstream cruise lines. Each ship features a Main Dining Room, a buffet, two snack bars, and two specialty restaurants - an Italian venue and a steakhouse.

Thanks to the intimate size of the ships and attentive service, you rarely experience long waits for your meals, making every dining experience enjoyable and relaxed.

Wi-Fi onboard Azamara Cruises

Wi-Fi is not included in the base fare on Azamara Cruises. Guests can purchase prepaid internet packages based on their usage needs. Options include:

  • $19.95 for 60 minutes
  • $29.95 for full-day access
  • $19.95 per day for unlimited access when purchased for the entire voyage

These packages offer flexibility depending on how connected you want to be during your cruise. Keep in mind that speeds may vary depending on your location at sea.

Gratuities

Gratuities are included in all Azamara cruise fares, so there is no need to worry about tipping the crew throughout your voyage. However, if you choose to use the spa or salon services onboard, an 18% gratuity will be automatically added to your bill.

Drinking age

The minimum drinking age is 21 on sailings from North America. On cruises departing from Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and New Zealand, the minimum age is 18.

Carry-on Drinks Policy

Guests may bring liquor, wine, and beer onboard to enjoy in their staterooms at no extra charge. A $10 corkage fee applies if you choose to drink your own wine or liquor in Azamara’s bars or restaurants.

Laundry

Azamara ships offer complimentary self-service laundry rooms for all guests, with detergent provided. Full laundry and dry-cleaning services are also available for an additional fee.
