Silversea Cruises is ideal for:
- Travelers seeking a truly luxurious experience
- Guests who desire a private butler service
- Those passionate about exploring unique destinations through expedition cruises
Silversea Cruises may not be suitable for:
- Families traveling with children
Silversea Cruises is designed for those who seek an elevated standard of luxury and long for the timeless elegance of a bygone era. Imagine a refined, Victorian-inspired European atmosphere, where guests dress with sophistication and the service is so impeccable it would impress even the most discerning British Lord.
Unlike other luxury lines such as Explora Journeys, Silversea caters to travelers who enjoy formal evenings, appreciate the art of dressing well, and cherish romantic moments above all else. It's also a brand for those with a spirit of adventure - guests who want to discover the furthest corners of the globe, from the icy landscapes of Antarctica to the vast wilderness of Greenland and the Arctic.
Silversea stands alongside the world’s most prestigious cruise lines, including Explora Journeys and Seabourn. Fares typically range from $5,000 per guest to well over that, depending on itinerary and suite category, a reflection of the exceptional quality and service you can expect. Click the Request a Quote button, and we’ll not only secure the best available fares but also guide you in selecting the perfect ship and itinerary for you and your travel companions.

So, what truly sets Silversea apart? Much like other ultra-luxury cruise lines, Silversea is fully All-Inclusive, and it even goes a step further. Nearly everything is included: complimentary Wi-Fi, premium beverages, gourmet dining, and even a personal butler in every suite. Guests also enjoy at least one complimentary shore excursion per port, and select sailings offer included airfare and pre- or post-cruise hotel accommodations.
Silversea offers both classic ocean voyages and immersive expedition cruises. While their ocean itineraries are exceptional, their expedition journeys take luxury adventure to a whole new level. Think up-close encounters with penguins in Antarctica, guided hikes through the Galápagos Islands, or sailing through the untouched beauty of the Chilean fjords. If you crave exploration without compromising on comfort, Silversea’s expedition cruises deliver in every way.
Every accommodation onboard is a suite - spacious, elegantly appointed, and significantly larger than standard cabins on mainstream cruise lines. Even entry-level suites offer ocean views and personalized butler service. Your butler will take care of everything from restocking your in-suite bar to arranging dinner reservations and even shining your shoes. It’s service at its finest, and guests consistently rave about the attention to detail.

The atmosphere onboard is tranquil, elegant, and unhurried. Silversea primarily attracts well-traveled guests aged 60 and up, so you won’t find waterslides, kids clubs, or flashy shows here. Instead, expect refined entertainment like intimate live performances, piano lounges, trivia nights, and sophisticated cocktail hours. Children are welcome but rare, which contributes to the serene and adult-focused ambiance.
If you appreciate fine dining, love dressing up, and enjoy having every detail taken care of - including a butler in your suite - Silversea may be exactly what you’re looking for. Yes, it’s a premium experience, but with it comes world-class service, extraordinary destinations, and a refined onboard culture that feels like luxury sailing wrapped in gold. And that, in our opinion, is the highest compliment.
Reviews of Silversea Cruises

The Good
All-Inclusive: Silversea Cruises goes beyond the usual when it comes to what’s included. Your base fare covers gratuities, free basic Wi-Fi, a personal butler in every suite, unlimited drinks, fine dining, and one shore excursion at every port of call. In many cases, it also includes flights to your destination and pre- and post-cruise hotel nights. That’s a seriously impressive list of perks, and all of it is included.
Butler Service: that’s actually part of the All-Inclusive deal, but I think it deserves its own section here. Every room onboard Silversea is a suite, and every suite comes with a butler! So yes, that means you always get a butler when traveling with Silversea. Butlers can make arrangements for you, bring you food and drinks, help polish your glasses, and more. That’s a whole new level of luxury that’s hard to beat.
Cozy Atmosphere & Exceptional Service: Silversea’s ships are intentionally intimate, accommodating between 500 to 800 guests. This smaller scale ensures a serene onboard experience that never feels crowded. The personalized service is consistently outstanding - from the ever-present butler in your suite to the attentive staff throughout the ship. Whether you're ordering a cocktail or requesting assistance, service is prompt, polished, and always delivered with a smile. You’ll rarely wait more than a minute for anything.
Expedition Cruises: If the idea of exploring remote and extraordinary destinations like Chile, the Arctic, Antarctica, and the Amazon excites you, then Silversea’s expedition cruises are exactly what you’re looking for. These immersive journeys are designed for true adventurers, bringing you face-to-face with some of the most awe-inspiring corners of the planet. Picture close-up encounters with penguins in Antarctica, guided hikes across icy tundras, or spotting elephants in the wilds of Sri Lanka, all while enjoying the comfort and elegance Silversea is known for. It’s an entirely different way to cruise, blending luxury with the thrill of discovery.
The Bad
Not for Everyone: Silversea offers a refined and tranquil cruising experience, which may not suit every type of traveler. You won’t find flashy entertainment, waterparks, or kids clubs onboard, and the atmosphere is intentionally calm and sophisticated. Most guests are seasoned travelers, typically in their 60s and older, who appreciate the quiet elegance of the journey. While formal nights are no longer mandatory, a dress code is still observed in the evenings, reflecting the line’s commitment to classic style and tradition. If you’re a young adult seeking high-energy activities or traveling with children, another cruise line may be a better fit.
Silversea Cruises Fleet and Destinations

Silversea operates both classic ocean ships and purpose-built expedition vessels. Their ocean fleet consists of small to mid-sized ships, with the largest ships welcoming just 728 guests.
The result is an intimate, uncrowded atmosphere where spacious lounges, open decks, and quiet corners are always within reach. Whether you're ordering a cocktail or simply looking for a serene place to unwind, you'll find the experience seamless, elegant, and refreshingly relaxed.
Here’s a look at their current fleet and the year each ship launched. Let’s start with the Ocean ships:

Silversea’s fleet of expedition ships is purposefully designed for exploring the world’s most remote and captivating destinations. These vessels take you deep into regions like the Arctic, Antarctica, Chilean fjords, and the untouched corners of Alaska. Smaller than traditional ocean-going ships, they offer a more exclusive and immersive experience, with itineraries that reflect their adventurous spirit and premium nature.
The most intimate, Silver Origin, hosts just 100 guests, while the largest, Silver Wind, carries up to 274. This smaller scale creates a warm, close-knit atmosphere where personalized service flourishes and the destination remains the true star of the journey.
Their current Expedition ships are:
- Silver Endeavour (2022)
- Silver Origin (2021)
- Silver Wind (1995)
- Silver Cloud (1993)

Silversea Cruises Prices
As a luxury cruise line, Silversea naturally commands a higher price point than mainstream cruise operators, but with that comes an exceptional level of service, exclusivity, and value.
Pricing can vary significantly depending on the itinerary, season, and suite category, so working with a trusted travel advisor - like us at Famvia - is the best way to secure the ideal voyage at the best possible rate.
At a glance, current fares range from approximately $5,000 per guest to well over $30,000, depending on the cruise. Ocean voyages tend to be more accessible. For example, a 6-day Tasmania sailing may cost around $9,000, while a bucket-list Antarctica expedition for two can run close to $22,000. Even a 12-day Caribbean itinerary in November for two guests starts at around $13,000 in an entry-level suite - remarkable value considering all that’s included.
Because Silversea frequently offers limited-time promotions and each sailing comes with multiple suite categories, pricing can be tricky to navigate on your own. Solo travelers should also expect to pay a supplemental fare of around 25%. That’s where we come in. Leave the research to us, and we’ll make sure your booking is seamless, smart, and stress-free.

These are all activities designed to engage guests without overwhelming them.
Children’s programs, waterparks, and waterslides are absent, reinforcing the cruise line’s commitment to tranquility. Is Silversea Cruises for You?

Silversea Cruises offers an exquisite luxury experience for travelers seeking the very best in comfort, cuisine, and unique destinations. It’s the ideal choice if you savor gourmet dining, leisurely days at sea, and the chance to explore remarkable places around the world. With much included in your base fare, and a personal butler attending to every suite, you’ll be pampered from the moment you step onboard.
This cruise line is especially well-suited for couples seeking an intimate, sophisticated escape. Their ships accommodate around 700 guests, creating an atmosphere of spacious elegance both indoors and on expansive open decks.
While formal nights are no longer mandatory, Silversea guests typically prefer to dress with a refined flair, setting a tone more elegant than some comparable lines, such as Explora Journeys. Children are rarely seen onboard, as the focus is on a serene and peaceful environment with minimal programming for younger guests.
For those with a spirit of adventure, Silversea’s Expedition Cruises offer unparalleled access to extraordinary destinations like Antarctica and the Arctic. These voyages blend thrilling land excursions with the luxury and comfort you expect at sea.
That said, Silversea may not be the perfect fit for families traveling with young children or for younger adults seeking a vibrant, high-energy cruise experience. Most guests tend to be in their 60s and older, though occasional travelers in their 40s can be found onboard.

Dress Code
In recent years, Silversea Cruises has done away with mandatory formal nights. That doesn’t mean you should only pack swimsuits and T-shirts, though, there is still an evening dress code after 6:00 p.m.
Here’s a breakdown of the current dress code policy onboard Silversea:
Daytime:
Casual wear is perfectly fine for daytime activities. Flat or low-heeled shoes are recommended for anything happening on deck.
Evening Wear, that falls into two categories:
- Elegant Casual: On most evenings, ladies may wear trousers, a blouse, a skirt, or a casual dress. Gentlemen can wear an open-collar shirt and dress pants. A jacket is optional.
- Formal Optional: Guests may choose to dress up more formally, with evening gowns or cocktail dresses for ladies and tuxedos, dinner jackets, or dark suits with a tie for gentlemen. If you prefer to stick with Elegant Casual, that’s also fine—but a jacket is still required for men in all indoor areas.
Additional guidelines:
After 6:00pm, jeans, shorts, hats, caps, sneakers, and flip-flops are not permitted in indoor public areas.
Casual wear remains acceptable in outdoor venues.
Gentlemen dining at La Dame are required to wear a jacket.
How many formal nights should you expect?
- 7 days or fewer: Elegant Casual every night.
- 8–14 days: 1 to 2 Formal Optional nights.
- 15 days or more: 2 or more Formal Optional nights.

Tipping is neither required nor expected on Silversea.

The minimum age to consume alcohol on Silversea ships on sailings from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand is 18.
Drink Packages
Since Silversea Cruises is All-Inclusive, there’s no need for a drink package. Almost every drink is available to you free of charge. However, some premium cocktails or specialty beverages may come with an extra cost.
Carry-on Drink Policy
Silversea does not limit the number of wine bottles or beers that guests can bring onboard and does not charge any corkage fees.
Kids Club
While Silversea does allow children on board, there are no dedicated programs or Kids Club available.

A self-service laundromat offers washing machines, dryers, irons and laundry supplies, allowing you to limit the amount of cruise luggage needed, especially for longer voyages.
Silversea Cruises Loyalty Club
The Venetian Society is Silversea’s loyalty program. You accumulate Venetian Society (VS) points based on days sailed - so the more trips you take, the more points you earn.
The program is divided into five tiers. You enter the first tier with your very first cruise, and to reach the top tier, you'll need 500 points, which equals 500 days of sailing with Silversea.
Some of the top perks include complimentary laundry at 100 VS points, a free 7-day cruise at 350 points, and a free 14-day cruise once you hit 500 points.
