Silversea Cruises Room & Dining Options

Silversea is synonymous with ultra-luxury at sea. The line’s small ocean and expedition ships carry all-suite accommodations, each with ocean views (and almost all with private teak balconies) and a 24-hour, tuxedoed butler assigned to every suite.
In fact, Silversea prides itself on offering one of the highest space-per-guest ratios at sea. From cozy windowed “Vista” suites up to palatial multi-balcony Owner’s Suites, the variety of accommodations spans dozens of categories.

Below we explore these suite tiers – and the lavish amenities and service they include, and then turn to the fleet’s acclaimed dining venues, from elegant main dining rooms to specialty restaurants. Along the way, we weave in traveler perspectives and expert reviews to help luxury-minded cruisers understand the options.

Please remember that you can always reach out to us with any questions you may have about Silversea Cruises. Silversea Cruise Suite Categories

Silversea’s cabins are all designated suites. Even the lowest-grade cabins are spacious by any cruise standard. For example, Silver Ray’s “Deluxe Veranda” Suites (not even the absolute bottom tier) measure about 357 square feet plus a 56-ft² balcony – roughly double the size of a typical big-ship balcony cabin. Most of Silversea ships organize suites into tiers:

Vista Suites

  • Features: great prices, window instead of a balcony.

These are big, luxurious Ocean View cabins. Typically measuring around 190 square feet, the Vista Suite offers a refined blend of comfort and practicality.

It features a large picture window (instead of a balcony), providing sweeping panoramic views of the sea, ice floes, or pristine wilderness. This window not only floods the suite with natural light but also lets you experience the dramatic scenery in privacy and warmth.

Classic/Superior/Deluxe/Premium Veranda Suites

  • Features: still spacious, even in the base category you get a full marble bath (shower and often tub), walk-in closet, sofa and writing desk, spacious private balcony, no separate living room.

These roughly 300–350 ft² suites all have a step-out teak balcony. The differences are mostly in location: Premium and Superior Verandas sit midships (often quieter with better views), while Classic Verandas (sometimes marketed simply as Veranda Suites) are located forward under the bow.

All Veranda Suites are open-plan: one bedroom/sitting area plus bathroom. Every suite comes with white-glove butler service and complimentary Wi-Fi. Many Verandas are offered as connecting cabins, so families can combine two for a “two-bedroom” suite.

Medallion Suites/Premium Medallion Suites

Silversea Cruises Medallion Suite.webp

  • Features: more space than a traditional Veranda Suite.

At about 528 ft² (including an extra-large living area and veranda), the Medallion Suite is essentially a grander Veranda Suite. Unlike a Veranda, it has a proper wall dividing the bedroom from the lounge/dining space. A Premium Medallion suite (usually at the ship’s stern) enjoys the best aft views. Both feature double vanities, separate shower and bathtub, and the same high-end furnishings.

Guests in Medallion Suites receive all Veranda perks plus “extra lounge space” and evening canapés. Expedition Medallion Suites even include an officers’-table dinner once per voyage. Pros: Significantly more space and privacy than a Veranda; ideal for two travelers. Cons: higher fare; some travelers might still seek even more room or multiple balconies.

Junior/Silver Suites

  • Features: Lots of living space, may have more than one balcony, still offer a single bedroom.

These 420–600+ ft² one-bedroom suites add extra seating areas or two balconies. For instance, Silver Explorer’s Silver Suites span ~422 ft² with two French balconies and a sofa bed. Junior Grand Suites (ocean ships) are similar in size, often with a second sofa/bed in the living area. Guests here enjoy all Medallion amenities, plus upgraded comforts.

Grand/Royal/Owner/Otium Suites

Silversea Cruises Otium Suite.webp

  • Features: ultimate luxury, lots of space.

At the top end are multi-room suites. A Grand Suite (roughly 600–620 ft²) has a separate living room and big veranda. Royal Suites (not on every ship) add yet more space.

The crown jewel is the Owner’s Suite (~728 ft² plus huge veranda). All have lavish extras: often an Illy espresso maker, powder room, complimentary worldwide phone minutes, free laundry and pressing. On Nova-class ships, Silversea introduced new categories like the Signature Suite, Master Suite, and Otium Suite, each larger and more opulent.

The Otium Suite, for example, sprawls over 1,326 ft² across multiple levels with a private library, two balconies (one with a Jacuzzi tub) and panoramic 270° views.

What can you find in a Silversea Cruises Suite?

No matter the suite category, Silversea spares no detail.

In every accommodation you’ll find luxury linings and extras: Pratesi Italian linens on king/twin beds, a rich pillow menu (10+ choices of down, hypoallergenic, memory-foam, etc.), and nightly turndown treats (think chocolate truffles or Marcolini bonbons). Marble-clad bathrooms are stocked with top-brand toiletries (choices of Salvatore Ferragamo, Bulgari or Neutrogena products), plush Etro or Frette robes and slippers, hair dryer and magnifying mirror.

42″ smart TVs (with on-demand movies, a media library and music) appear in both bedroom and lounge areas, along with high-quality audio systems and iPod docks. Every suite includes a fully stocked mini-bar and refrigerator, pre-set with your drink preferences (juice, soft drinks, beer, wine) and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages.

Other handy items - binoculars, umbrellas, stationery and even in-cabin aromatherapy scents - contribute to the feeling that “your suite is truly your home away from home.” Importantly, Silversea’s all-inclusive fares cover many of these touches: unlimited Wi-Fi is provided in every cabin, and on ocean voyages there is no extra charge for dining or standard drinks.

Butler Service onboard Silversea Cruises

Most famously, butler service is provided to every suite, day and night.

These amazing staff members can assist with unpacking/packing your luggage, ironing or shoeshines, and orchestrating your at-sea experience. Ask and your butler will gladly handle dinner reservations or shore trip changes for you.

They will bring room service at any hour – from late-night truffle popcorn and cocktails to a private in-suite spa shower experience with scented bath bombs. It’s even possible to enjoy an in-suite multi-course dinner: the staff can expand your cabin’s coffee table and lay out a full place setting, as if you were in the restaurant.

Housekeeping attendants ensure impeccable cleanliness, and your butler can fetch extra pillows or amenities from Silversea’s curated options (the pillow menu actually comes in a box of mini pillows to sample). In short, from stocked bar to pillow choices, Silversea’s suites cater to every whim. Even upon arrival you’ll find welcome gifts (a bottle of Champagne, a box of chocolates and a fruit basket) awaiting you in your suite.

Dining Onboard Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises The Restaurant.webp

Silversea’s cuisine is as lavish as its lodgings. Each ship carries a range of restaurants, from elegant main dining rooms to intimate specialty venues, all designed for “an immersive culinary experience” that mirrors the line’s “Sea and Land Taste” (S.A.L.T.) philosophy.

In general: every cruise fare includes meals in the main dining rooms (no assigned seating, any time) and most bars/snacks. Specialty restaurants may carry an extra cover charge on some itineraries, but are optional for those seeking gourmet variety.

Main Dining Room

This is the ship’s primary eatery, often named The Restaurant. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, with a changing menu of gourmet dishes. Expect a mix of continental classics and local influences.

Even in Antarctica waters “sophisticated modern European cuisine” is served, with the menu often emphasizing Italian specialties (the line’s heritage) alongside high-end proteins like lobster and filet. Breakfast buffets feature made-to-order eggs, pastries and international fare; lunch and dinner offer multiple courses (soups, salads, fish/meat entrées, rich desserts or cheese plates).

The ambiance is refined and candlelit in the evenings. Included house wines (usually well-chosen mid-range bottles) are complimentary, and a sommelier is happy to suggest upgrades. Many report the food in the main dining rooms is excellent, and service is on par with Michelin 1* restaurants.

Buffet

Most ocean ships feature a daytime buffet restaurant often called La Terrazza. Here, breakfast and lunch are served cafeteria-style with chef stations (made-to-order omelets, sushi or pasta-of-the-day, salads, carving stations, international sweets).

By night this venue may transform into a classic Italian eatery, serving a la carte regional dishes. Dine indoors or al fresco by day; at dinner the lights are lowered and service is more formal. La Terrazza is a guest favorite for its laid-back atmosphere and Italian flair. Expect fresh pastas, risottos and gravies in addition to antipasti. Many cruisers love the pasta here, naming it a favorite dinner venue.

Restaurants Onboard Silversea Cruises

Kaiseki

  • Type: Japanese teppanyaki, additional charges.

Another specialty on larger ships, Kaiseki offers sushi and sashimi for lunch, then transforms into a teppanyaki grill by dinner. Expect theater as chefs cook on a flat-top grill before you.

Sushi rolls and sashimi feature fish caught at port calls, and dinner courses might include wagyu beef, lobster tail or tempura. On some ships Kaiseki carries a cover charge, but some guests find it underwhelming compared to its fee.

Atlantide

  • Type: Seafood, complimentary.

On several ships, Atlantide is the second main dining room or French bistro. It has an a la carte menu of steaks, lobster tail, fish and vegetarian entrées, with a slightly more casual vibe than The Restaurant. Many call it “an absolute must for the foodie,” inspired by the myth of Atlas.

The Grill

  • Type: Volcanic Stone Grill, complimentary.

Located by the pool, The Grill serves grilled specialties. Uniquely, you can cook your meal at the table on a volcanic hot stone (provided sizzling at ~400°F). By day it turns into a gourmet burger-and-salad bar where you choose ingredients for a made-to-order meal; by night it’s a sit-down steakhouse. On newer expedition ships like Silver Endeavour, The Grill is in a glassed solarium with panoramic ocean views.

Spaccanapoli

  • Type: Pizza, complimentary.

A casual venue found on Nova-class ships, specializing in authentic Neapolitan pizza, pasta and Italian antipasti for lunch or dinner. It’s great for a laid-back meal.

S.A.L.T. Kitchen & Bar

  • Type: Varies, complimentary, option for extra cost as well.

On Nova and Ray, the S.A.L.T. program brings a destination’s flavors onboard. The immersive S.A.L.T. Kitchen (dinner-only) adjusts its menu daily to feature ingredients and recipes from the port region. Guests can also attend onboard cooking classes and lectures that cost extra.

The Best Restaurants Onboard Silversea Cruises

La Dame

  • Type: French Cuisine, additional charges.

By partnership with Relais & Châteaux, this white-glove restaurant offers multi-course French fine dining. Served a la carte (often for dinner only), La Dame’s menu features luxury ingredients (truffles, caviar, wagyu, lobster) with classic French techniques. Atmosphere is elegant! Think soft lighting, pristine china and tuxedoed service.

La Dame often requires a modest surcharge (around $60 on expedition ships; up to $160 on oceaners), but many rave about its souffle and caviar service.

Indochine

Silversea Cruises Indochine.webp

  • Type: Pan-Asian, complimentary.

Praised as one of the most beautiful venues onboard, Indochine’s sleek design (black marble, seafoam green banquettes) and adventurous menu make it a favorite. Everything tastes fabulous, from artfully presented appetizers (satay, dim sum) to creative entrées like chili-lime chicken or Vietnamese fish stew. The atmosphere is dimly lit, warm-toned décor with an Asian-artistic touch.

Ocean vs. Expedition Dining

The divide between Silversea’s standard ocean cruises and its polar expeditions is subtle when it comes to dining quality, but notable in venue count:

Ocean Ships

These ships have multiple specialty venues (often 6–8 restaurants plus bars). Dining is open-seating with no fixed dining times, so you are free to eat whenever and wherever you like. The emphasis is on choice: mix and match entrees across cuisines. Premium wines and spirits are included under the unlimited open-bar model.

Travelers praise the cuisine’s creativity, with many fine-dining touches (foie gras, caviar service, etc.) appearing throughout.

Expedition Ships

Although these smaller vessels still offer gourmet fare, the restaurant lineup is more streamlined. On Silver Cloud Expedition, for instance, there is one main restaurant (The Restaurant) for all meals, plus two additional dining rooms: La Terrazza (buffet breakfast/lunch, Italian dinner) and La Dame (French dinner, extra charge).

Silver Endeavour’s refined program has The Restaurant (à la carte), Il Terrazzino (Italian, dinner buffet), La Dame (French), and the unique Grill by the pool. Importantly, expedition ships do not skimp on luxury.
