If you are visiting Walt Disney Studios Park, there’s a good chance you want to become an Avenger for a day and check out Flight Force, the park’s main roller coaster. Many people hear about it and think, “Wait, an exclusive Avengers roller coaster in Paris!?” In theory, it sounds amazing, but while Tony Stark and Thor had some fun ideas and worked hard to improve it over the years, I wish this coaster had a few more original elements.
Much like a superhero, Avengers Assemble: Flight Force had a rough start and faced plenty of challenges. It originally began as a weaker copy of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster from Hollywood Studios before evolving into the ride we know today. In 2023, it received new lighting effects and animatronics, and we’d rank it more in the Avengers: Age of Ultron tier rather than the Avengers: Endgame level. It’s still fun and definitely worth a look, even if it could be much more.
What we like about Avengers Assemble: Flight Force
We love it because it’s basically a reskin of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
…and since Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is pretty good, we can safely say Avengers Assemble is also pretty good. This is a dark roller coaster (similar to Space Mountain) with an amazing launch that propels guests from 0 to 57 mph (92 km/h) in less than three seconds. At Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was one of the first coasters to use this launch system, and even if the tech isn’t new in 2025, it still feels fantastic. The track is an exact copy of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster from Hollywood Studios, so you get an inversion right after the launch, a few twists and turns, and that’s about it. It’s short, lasting only 1 minute and 10 seconds, but that is a very good full minute of coaster fun.
As we mentioned before, this ride has gone through major updates and changes since it first debuted back in 2002, when it was still themed to Aerosmith. A major update in 2023 added an incredible Iron Man animatronic along with new projections and lighting effects during the ride. The Iron Man figure might be the best animatronic in the entire park and is sure to put a smile on your face if you are a Marvel fan.
While Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster focused on Steven Tyler rocking out to Aerosmith classics with plenty of nods to California, here you soar through starfield effects that make you feel like you are in outer space, watching Iron Man and Captain Marvel battle. And yes, Captain Marvel is here too, and unlike Iron Man, she speaks in English and is voiced by Brie Larson, the original actress from the movies.
I also think this is a good roller coaster for children. For younger riders, the theming feels much friendlier than Aerosmith, and the coaster is not nearly as intense as some of the mega coasters you find at Universal. The launch is fun, there is one inversion that flips kids upside down, and the twists and turns do not compare to big thrill machines like Stardust Racers or VelociCoaster. If your kids are around five years old, enjoy roller coasters, and have already tried Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, you can safely bring them here.
What we don’t like about Avengers Assemble: Flight Force
What makes this ride fun might also be disappointing to some guests. I have a similar thought when I ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: it’s a great water ride, but it’s basically Splash Mountain, since the track is the same. Here, you can close your eyes and almost imagine Steven Tyler wearing Iron Man armor. I wish they had done more with the track layout or added a bigger twist to make it feel like a truly original Avengers roller coaster.
The vehicles, for example, could have used some updates, since they still use over-the-shoulder harnesses that can be uncomfortable for many guests. Considering that many new roller coasters today feature much more comfortable seats, from Stardust Racers to Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain next door, it is strange that the vehicles and seats were not updated in the 2023 refresh. The new effects are definitely welcome, but the vehicles could have used an upgrade as well.
So, you are probably wondering if this ride is better than Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios, and I would say… no, it is not. But I also do not think it is much worse. The Aerosmith theme works surprisingly well, and the soundtrack of random Aerosmith songs is a really fun touch. Here, you get the Avengers theme along with some hero dialogue, which is a bit underwhelming, honestly.
Conclusion
Is it a bit disappointing that this ride already exists in Hollywood Studios and the vehicles are still the same? Yes, but even as a reskin, it is still a pretty fun and exciting roller coaster that you should try at least once. The theming is solid, the new effects are a nice upgrade, and the wait times are not bad at all, often ranging from 5 to 20 minutes. I say assemble your party and give it a go.
