Are you ready to head to space and destroy a bunch of robots? Yeah, I know, the archenemy of Buzz Lightyear is called Z-something, and the name just escapes me right now. In this ride, however, you’ll be zapping a ton of Z-robots as you fight for the top score against your friends and family. Relax, you’ve got unlimited ammo, so just fire away!
Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast is Disneyland Paris’ version of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin from Magic Kingdom, where you board a vehicle and fire at dozens of different targets. Laser Blast is a shooting gallery through and through, similar to MIB: Alien Attack at Universal Studios and Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios. It’s a fun ride, especially for lovers of arcade-style games and anyone ready to become a space cadet.
What we like about Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast
Laser Blast is a very cool shooting gallery, even if it doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It runs for about five minutes, and during that time you’ll travel through different environments where your goal is to aim at targets marked with a big Z and fire away. There are tons of targets wherever you look. Spot a giant robot on the wall? It probably has a target. A huge battery floating above your head? Yep, there’s a Z somewhere on it. A mecha-space-worm dancing far away? I bet it has a target on its head worth a lot of points.
Here’s how it works: you board a two-person vehicle with a gun, and then it’s time to blast everything in your way. The vehicle itself is pretty cool, too. There's even a lever that lets you rotate it 360 degrees, and even if you don’t care about shooting at stuff you can just spin around non-stop. That makes it more fun, letting you look around, get better angles on targets, and reach some that might be hidden behind you.
There’s also a major perk that automatically makes this version better than the one at Disney World, and on par with Disneyland California’s: your gun isn’t glued to the vehicle. On the Disney World Buzz Lightyear ride, the blaster is fixed to the car like a turret, so you can’t move it much. In the Paris version, however, the gun is attached to a cable, letting you hold it freely like in MIB: Alien Attack and get better shots at all those targets.
By the way, the evil guy's name is Zurg, I just remembered it.
What we don’t like about Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast
While Laser Blast is fun, it’s actually quite simple. I do love the vehicle and the fact that you can keep spinning around, but the backgrounds and animatronics feel a bit basic.
If you’ve ever been on MIB: Alien Attack, you’ll notice that its environments are large, detailed, and filled with diverse animatronics that look amazing. In Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, however, the targets often look more like cardboard cutouts. Most of them are static, with limited movement and sound, which makes the ride feel a bit dated.
I do hope this ride gets some updates in the future. The one at Magic Kingdom is undergoing a major renovation and will reopen in 2026, so I’m excited to see what’s new there. I’d love to see more advanced animatronics and maybe some extra background effects that really make you feel like you’re in space.
Conclusion
While not the most advanced shooting gallery in a theme park, Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast is colorful, fun, and features vehicles that are genuinely cool to control. If wait times are under 30 minutes, you should definitely give it a go… just try to keep your competitive side in check!
