Who never wanted to be Spider-Man, even for a day? Catching bad guys, being part of the Avengers, having your own ride at Disney World… yeah, it does sound fun. Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure could be described as a Spider-Man simulator. It’s basically the same ride as Disneyland California’s WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, with the difference that Tom Holland speaks French and the Spider-Bots are called araignée-bots. No, wait, they’re actually called Spider-Bots.
It’s a fun, if rather simple, 3D simulator that feels like a mix between Transformers 3D and Toy Story Mania. The difference is that you use your hands to throw webs at Spider-Bots that appear on different screens, fighting for the top score against your friends and family. As far as rides and shooting galleries go, I’d put Toy Story Mania and MIB: Alien Attack ahead of it, but this ride is a huge hit with children since you don’t need to hold a plastic gun. Your arms are the gun, after all, and it’s hard to beat the fantasy of being Spider-Man.
If you have children or you’re a big fan of one of Marvel’s best superheroes, you definitely need to come here.
What we like about Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure
W.E.B. Adventure is a mix between a dark ride and a shooting gallery, although the shooting gallery portion makes up about 95% of it. It’s similar to Toy Story Mania in that regard, where you board a vehicle with about four other guests, put on 3D glasses, and aim at Spider-Bots to destroy them and score points. The main difference is that you use your own hands to fire projectiles, so no need to aim with a gun. It’s simple and fun.
Let’s say that this ride is a big hit with children. Seriously, they love it, and the no height requirement means everyone is welcome to come here and enjoy. In fact, it’s pretty easy to understand: you just throw your arm in front of you, mimicking the classic web-throw, and hit Spider-Bots on the screens in front of you. You don’t need to get the gesture 100% right, since most of the time, simply throwing your arm forward is enough. So everyone, from small three-year-olds to seniors, can enjoy it, and the chaos during the ride means that everyone will also be addicted to destroying those Spider-Bots in record time.
This ride is also very, very funny. I mean, even if you’re 50 years old, I bet you’ll be laughing out loud with your party as you board the vehicle and start frantically flapping your arms like you’re warming up for a workout. From a gameplay perspective, it might not be as good as MIB: Alien Attack, but it’s definitely funnier, and that matters a lot. From kids to adults, everyone is smiling as bots explode in front of you and your arms start begging for a short break.
What we don’t like about Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure
This ride is cool, but it’s also rather simple. Will kids care about that while they’re throwing virtual webs and laughing for a full four minutes? Nah. But let’s say that this ride is basically made of screens, and you won’t find animatronics or cool props around you. So don’t expect anything close to The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Islands of Adventure. This one is more of a Toy Story Mania-style ride than anything else.
I also think this ride feels a bit less precise than other shooting galleries. Again, this won’t matter much for children, but since your arm is basically the gun, some projectiles can feel off target. Holding a plastic gun and firing at different objects is definitely more accurate, and I bet that after two seconds, you’ll be randomly throwing your arm forward trying to hit everything in sight. I think that’s part of the fun and one of the reasons why this ride is so funny.
Conclusion
Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure isn’t the most technologically advanced shooting gallery, but it’s probably the funniest. If you have children, you should definitely come here, especially since there’s no height requirement. Just start hitting the gym now and get your arm ready for four minutes of non-stop exercise.
