The Star Princess, the sister ship of the Sun Princess, is set to debut in October 2025. As a sister ship, many of its amenities will be carried over from the Sun Princess, including The Dome - a Santorini-inspired, glass-enclosed venue that serves as a pool deck by day and transforms into an entertainment venue by night - as well as the impressive three-story Main Dining Room.
There are, however, some thoughtful changes on the Star Princess, as Princess Cruises appears to have taken guest feedback to heart. Let’s explore some of these updates and what we can expect from this exciting new vessel.

The Sun Princess Casino is currently the largest in the fleet… but not for long. The upcoming Star Princess will claim that title, as its casino will feature an expanded non-smoking area. This is a thoughtful upgrade and fantastic news for those that prefer to breathe Oxygen instead of CO2.
Some of the existing restaurants from the Sun Princess will also be featured on the Star Princess, and they’re getting bigger. Both O’Malley’s Irish Pub and Love by Britto will expand, with the Irish Pub gaining 32 additional seats and the luxurious seven-course restaurant adding 20 more seats.
Love waking up early for a game of basketball? You’ll be happy to know that the sports court on the Star Princess is larger than the one on the Sun Princess, which had to be scaled back after its debut. The court accommodates both pickleball and basketball, and the area also features a jogging track, splash pad, and shaded seating for those who prefer to relax.
The destinations for the Sun Princess and Star Princess are quite similar. Both ships sail to the Mediterranean and Europe, and they even share the same homeport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The main difference? Star Princess will travel to the West Coast in 2026, and also visit Alaska!
Don’t rush the launch of the Star Princess! In fact, Princess Cruises seems to understand this, and has delayed the launch from the start of 2025 to October. One issue the Sun Princess faced for several months was that the ship appeared unfinished in 2024. Some areas led to nowhere, and there was still construction happening in certain spaces during sailings. We hope the Star Princess will be fully ready to go this October.
