Disney Genie+ Guide for Epcot

Hello and welcome to Famvia’s guide to Disney Genie+ for Epcot. Glad to see you are planning on optimizing your time for the park of the future. Yes, the park with the giant-white-ball, that’s the one!

Epcot is a theme park where you already spend a lot of time walking around the World Showcase and moving between long distances, so entering rides as soon as possible will surely make your experience better. That's where Mickey Mouse comes to the rescue with Disney Genie+.

It also helps that you can use Disney Genie+ and enter the Lightning Lane queue for some of the most popular attractions in Epcot, like Soarin’, Test Track, Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, which might be the main target for this special service.

Advice for Disney Genie+ in Epcot

Here is some extra info and general advices you should follow if you plan on buying Disney Genie+ in Epcot:

  • Disney Genie+ is available to purchase starting at midnight on the day of your visit. Make sure to buy it through the My Disney Experience app on your phone.
  • Although you can buy this service at midnight, you can only make your first Disney Genie+ selection starting at 7am. Make sure to wake up early and get ready to select your first attraction at this exact time.
  • Remember what we told you in our previous guide when we talked about Virtual Queues, Lightning Lanes and Disney Genie+: you can only hold one Lightning Lane reservation through Disney Genie+ at a time. You can book another Lightning Lane through Disney Genie+ after you use your reservation, or after waiting two hours since the time of your reservation. If you made your first reservation at 7am, though, the time starts counting once the park opens.
  • It is also at 7am that the Virtual Queue opens. You should prioritize this, since Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind uses the Virtual Queue option at Epcot. This is one of the best rides in the world, so make sure to secure a place for Cosmic Rewind before anything else. After securing your place, you can set up your first ride by using Disney Genie+.
  • If you are staying in a Disney World hotel, you can also buy an individual Lightning Lane starting at 7am. We do suggest that you buy an individual Lightning Lane for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, so you can ride it twice in a single day. If you are staying offsite, you need to wait until the park officially opens so you can buy individual Lightning Lanes.
  • Disney Genie+ isn’t as expensive in Epcot as it is in Magic Kingdom. In fact, it’s usually cheaper than both Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. Expect to pay anything from $15 all the way to $30, depending on the time of the year you are visiting.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Journey of Water: Inspired by Moana are not included in Disney Genie+. Use the Virtual Queue at 7am to secure a place for Cosmic Rewind. There are no Lightning Lanes for Journey of Water.

Great, we know a little more about Disney Genie+ in Epcot. Now, let’s check out which attractions are available for you once you buy this service.

Disney Genie+ Rides in Epcot

This is the list of attractions available for Disney Genie+ in Epcot:

  • Test Track
  • Soarin’
  • Frozen Ever After
  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
  • Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival
  • Journey Into Imagination With Figment
  • Living With The Land
  • Mission: SPACE
  • The Seas With Nemo & Friends
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Turtle Talk With Crush

As you can see, the list of options isn’t as big as what you’d find in Magic Kingdom. In fact, there aren’t even that many attractions, which might invoke a very simple question: is Disney Genie+ worth in Epcot?

We would say yes, especially for first time visitors.

We can present two simple points to explain our line of thought. First, you won’t be spending much on your Disney Genie+. Paying something like $18 per person to skip lines in at least four must see attractions is already a pretty good deal. Second, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After usually have huge lines that easily reach 60 minutes, so cutting down time there is extremely advantageous.

Time to talk a little bit more about how you are going to use Disney Genie+ in Epcot. This is, after all, why this guide was made, but it was important to give you a heads up first of what to expect when buying this service.

We are going to create two different groups for Disney Genie+ in Epcot. The first group is for guests that want to experience every attraction that the park has to offer. The second group focuses mostly on what toddlers and kids want to see.

Just keep in mind one thing: creating a Disney Genie+ guide is really, really hard. If you opt to go to the best, most popular rides, there is a chance that you will use Disney Genie+ on fewer rides throughout the day, but you will at least enjoy the best attractions. If you choose to use it on less popular rides, you will use Disney Genie+ a lot, but then you will need to wait in the regular queue for the most popular attractions.

That’s not all, by the way. Let’s not forget that it’s impossible to predict the exact time slot of your Genie+ reservation, how long you are going to spend in lane for Lightning Lanes and regular queues, if you want to re-ride an attraction you really loved, and even if a ride decides to break down while you are waiting in line. Yeah, it’s not easy, but we are going to try our best.

That’s why we are focusing mostly on ride priority based on Disney Genie+, instead of writing down a guide that you should always follow. Trust us, it’s impossible to create a step by step guide for Disney Genie+ since time slots can be so unpredictable.

We are also dividing the Disney Genie+ priority in two groups, as we told you already. Later on, we are going to talk a little bit about each ride and why they should be included in your Disney Genie+ strategy or not.

Ride Priority A - You want to see Everything

Your ride priority should be:

  1. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
  2. Frozen Ever After
  3. Test Track
  4. Soarin’
  5. Mission: SPACE (probably the Orange version)
  6. Spaceship Earth

Ride Priority B - You want to focus on what the little ones want to see

Your ride priority should be:

  1. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
  2. Frozen Ever After
  3. Soarin’
  4. Test Track
  5. Mission: SPACE (probably the Green version)
  6. Spaceship Earth

Note: If you are staying at a Disney Hotel, there are days when you can enter the park half an hour before everyone else. We recommend waking up early and getting there as soon as possible for the so-called “Rope Drop”. In this case, you can head directly to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and enter the regular queue. This will save you time and a Disney Genie+ that you can use for any other popular attraction!

Ride Strategy Example

China epcot world showcase Disney.webp

We told you that creating a ride strategy using Disney Genie+ is hard, remember that? And indeed it is! We were definitely not lying. Still, we decided to create an itinerary so it can serve as an example of what you could do.

Your experience certainly won’t be like this one here, but it gives you an idea of what to expect when attending Epcot and making use of Disney Genie+. This itinerary brings you to the most popular rides and tries to make it so you are not walking around the whole park like crazy, as it mostly visits attractions that are close to each other.

One good thing about this example is that there are plenty of times for you to do anything you want, since there is a lot of down time between rides. Maybe you won’t be going to every single ride, but the main ones are surely there.

Let’s check it out.

From Midnight to 6:30am: Buy your Disney Genie+ for Epcot.

7am: Get in the Virtual Queue and grab a spot for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

7am: Book Disney Genie+ for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

7am: If you are staying in a Disney World hotel, you can also buy an individual Lightning Lane at this time. We recommend buying it for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind so you can ride it twice on the same day.

Park Opening: You can now buy an individual Lightning Lane if you are staying off-site. Again, we recommend Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Your itinerary now depends on three factors: your Virtual Queue time slot for Cosmic Rewind, your Disney Genie+ time slot for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and if you bought a Lightning Lane for Cosmic Rewind as well. Let’s say we have Cosmic Rewind booked for 10am-11am and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is a little bit later than that.

9:30am: Test Track (regular queue).

10:30am: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (virtual queue access).

11:15am: Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (Disney Genie +, book Disney Genie+ for Frozen Ever After).

11:45am: Journey of Water: Inspired by Moana (regular queue).

12:20pm: Mission: SPACE (regular queue).

12:50pm: Lunch break in the World Showcase (two hours have probably passed since your Disney Genie+, book Disney Genie+ for Soarin’).

2pm: Frozen Ever After (Disney Genie+).

2:30pm: World Showcase (walk around and have fun!).

2:50pm: Two hours have passed. Book a Disney Genie+ for Test Track.

5pm: Soarin’ (Disney Genie+).

5:30pm: Living With The Land.

6pm: The Seas With Nemo & Friends.

6:30pm: Test Track (Disney Genie+, book Disney Genie+ for whatever you want).

7:15pm: Spaceship Earth (regular queue).

8pm: World Showcase.

9pm: Epcot’s Fireworks.

Explaining Disney Genie+ Priorities

Now it’s time to talk a little bit about some of our choices when it comes to priorities for your Disney Genie+.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure: Probably the most popular ride in Epcot nowadays, thanks to a few things: one, it’s one of the most recent rides. Two, it’s family-friendly and based on a popular franchise. Three, it’s fun! Regular lines can go all the way to 100 minutes, so it’s a good idea to make Remy one of your top priorities.

Frozen Ever After: Elsa and friends remain as popular as ever. Of course a ride based on Frozen is going to be popular. It’s not as packed as Remy nowadays, but that doesn’t mean much. Regular queues can take you from 40 to 80 minutes, so Disney Genie+ remains a high priority.

Test Track: One of the top priorities for guests that want a thrilling and awesome ride. Test Track is still one of the most popular rides in Epcot, with waiting times ranging from 40 to 60 minutes. Disney Genie+ can definitely help you a lot. It’s also a good idea to ride this one as soon as possible since Test Track breaks down a lot. Hot tip: you can also use the Single Rider queue, which almost always is very fast when compared to the regular queue.

Soarin’: Another very popular ride that attracts a lot of families. Regular queues are just as long as the ones found on Test Track, but Soarin’ isn’t as packed at the end of the day.

Mission: SPACE: This one almost never gets too crowded and it’s very rare to spend more than 20 to 30 minutes in line, even for the orange version. Still, it might be a good option for Disney Genie+ for guests that want to go to space as soon as possible. Mission: SPACE orange is very intense, so do not come here right after lunch.

Spaceship Earth: It’s usually not recommended to get Disney Genie+ for Spaceship Earth for a very good reason: queue times are extremely low after 6pm. We are talking about 5 minute waiting times. Sure, it gets packed in the morning since it’s the first attraction right past the main gates, but save this one for the regular queue and come here around 7pm.

Closing thoughts

Well, this is it for our Disney Genie+ guide for Epcot. We hope you enjoyed your time learning about how to optimize your time. If a particular ride isn’t listed, it’s because Genie+ rarely runs out or there are better options for you.

This guide is very useful, but don’t get too attached to it. Visit the rides you want to visit and spend Disney Genie+ with whatever you want, be it Test Track, Journey Into Imagination with Figment or Living with the Land.

Don’t stress out too much if Genie+ runs out for some of your favorite rides. You can always enter the regular queue. Yes, even if it's a long queue for Remy’s, try to relax and enjoy the moment. Also don’t stress out about the perfect strategy to min-max your Disney Genie+. Use it on your favorite, most popular rides and enjoy the moment.

Seriously, it doesn’t matter if you only used Disney Genie+ on two or three attractions or even if you forgot to set up a new ride. You are in Disney World! Take in the atmosphere, relax and, above all, have fun.
