Men in Black: Alien Attack Review

Do you have what it takes to don the black suit?

Attention! Aliens are planning an invasion to take over planet Earth. Again. In fact, some of them have already landed and are living among us. Have you seen some of those politicians around the world? No way they’re human with some of the decisions they make. But the aliens aren't just in positions of power. Oh no. They’re hiding inside trash cans, behind windows, and camouflaging in bushes. They could be right next to you now. Or they could even be you.

You need to get ready and prepare for the most important mission of your life, recruit, and that’s why we have made just for you the best shooting interactive ride in Florida. You know the drill, right? Grab your laser guns and shoot at anything that’s moving or looks weird, but that doesn’t include your uncle sitting right next to you. Or maybe it does. The aliens look incredibly realistic. Not those things called “digital screens” we have in the 2020s, but lifelike animatronics in huge, open scenarios just like the Big Apple. Good luck.

The Good

Men in Black: Alien Attack is awesome. Pure and simple. It certainly beats out both Toy Story Mania and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin to get the title of best shooting gallery in both Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World. You know what’s funny? This ride is almost twenty-five years old! It still manages to be incredibly charming and entertaining, featuring awesome animatronics, Will Smith and a score system that can really bring the competitive spirit buried deep inside all of us.

Alien Attack is immersive from the moment you enter the queue to when it’s finally time to shoot some aliens. Your vehicle seats six guests, each equipped with their own laser gun. The objective is simple: as your vehicle moves along the track, aim at every alien you see and try to hit them in the head. Some aliens give more points than others, so always aim for the high score. Picture something like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, but bigger and with way more details.

There’s a lot going on in this ride. While some aliens are easy to spot, others hide between bushes or behind windows. The atmosphere is fun and full of visual surprises, even if you don’t care about shooting aliens. The scenarios are vast, resembling a real city with buildings, trash cans, stores, and trees surrounding you. There are two distinct tracks your vehicle can take, each showing slightly different things, so your second time here might offer a new experience.

I really like how great the animatronics look. They have that nostalgic feel about them like they belong to a movie from the 80s, but they also don’t look cheap at all and come in all shapes and sizes. It almost makes me feel bad for blasting them. Almost. Plus, most of them have their own sound effects and react to your shots, making it extra cool.

Some of the setpieces are particularly fun. In one section, you face another vehicle filled with guests, and your objective is to hit the small sensor on top of their vehicle. This not only scores you a lot of points but also makes the opposing vehicle spin, which is always entertaining. Near the end, you encounter a huge alien threat, big enough to swallow you whole. And maybe it does just that.

Here is a pro tip: this attraction has one of the fastest single rider queues across all theme parks in Florida. It’s lightning fast. You don’t stop to watch any pre-shows and can basically enter the vehicle almost immediately. There is a good chance that even if you enter the single rider line with a friend you both will share the same car. Try it for yourself if you plan on re-riding.

Will Kids enjoy it?

Yes! The animatronics are more charming than scary in my opinion, but they are aliens after all, so it can be a bit frightening for children. Also, keep in mind that your vehicle may suddenly spin, especially in the section where your car faces another one filled with guests. Here, you'll need to aim and shoot at each other's sensors on top, causing the "enemy" vehicle to spin out of control.

The scariest part is at the end, where your vehicle gets swallowed by a giant alien. Your car races inside and starts spinning wildly until the alien burps you out. It might be a bit intense for young ones, but it's over quickly.

Teenagers will have a blast. The animatronics are well made, and the video game elements of this ride will likely bring a smile to their faces.
