What To Do if You Get Sick Aboard Royal Caribbean?

Be prepared for anything!

Ugh, who loves getting sick? Raise your hands, please. Ok, I’m going to assume that no one raised their hands. Dealing with medicine, symptoms, and missing out on all the fun activities is the worst. It's like it comes pre-installed, right? Unfortunately, it's just part of being human, and it can be quite unpredictable.

How unpredictable? Let me tell you. One time, I had planned all week to go to the beach on Saturday, and that same Saturday morning, I woke up sick as... well, sick. I couldn't prevent it; it just happened. Maybe it was that super sour mango I ate the day before. However, my point is, it can happen when you least expect it, or want to.

Getting sick on a Royal Caribbean Cruise

I know, the title sounds like a nightmare, but it shouldn’t be. We have to accept the fact that this is a possibility that could happen to anyone and, thankfully, Royal Caribbean ships are fully aware of it.

All you have to do is relax and try to be responsible during your trip to avoid any health issues. However, if the time comes, remember not to panic. Each Royal Caribbean ship is equipped with medical facilities stocked with a wide array of equipment and items necessary to meet the guidelines set by the American College of Emergency Physicians Cruise Ship & Maritime Medicine Section. Rest assured, everything is as professional and licensed as it needs to be.

What about doctors?

Every single ship is packed with licensed doctors and nurses who are at the your disposal all day and night. The number of medical members will depend on the size of the ship, the number of passengers, and even the number of crew members. We’re fine in that area. They're well-trained in various situations, capable of handling emergencies even to the point of conducting a proper evacuation of patients if necessary.

So, what should you do when feeling sick?

Simply approach any staff member, and they will promptly guide you to the professionals aboard who will take care of you and provide the necessary treatment or medication to help you feel better. Even if it's a minor issue, there's no need to worry; you can still continue enjoying your cruise adventure. Just trust the staff and take some time to rest. Remember, you're in the middle of the sea surrounded by almost everything you need. Just take a deep breath. Oh, and perhaps take it easy with the piña coladas.
