Seriously, what can we say about It’s a Small World in 2024?
Ride it. No, I am not joking. It’s a Small World has probably transcended the idea of being a mere ride and has become a pop culture icon at this point. It doesn’t mean if you are going to like this one or not, you need to come here just to go back home and say “I’ve ridden It’s a Small World, my life is now complete”. Do it.
You are before one of the few remaining rides from Magic Kingdom's early days when it opened its doors back in 1971! It's a Small World is a classic slow boat ride that you've likely heard about at some point, showcasing hundreds of singing dolls celebrating the cultural richness of our world.
If you pick up a dictionary and search the word charming, you will find It’s a Small World there. Seriously, there is just something magical about this ride. Is there anything particularly amazing about it? Not really, but you can’t help but smile and enjoy your time there. This is nothing more than a 10 minute boat ride where you travel around the world and see dolls singing a catchy song in different languages, and I definitely recommend it.
“It’s a Small World” - the theme song, by the way - is an absolute classic that has been parodied and referenced in popular culture, including a cameo in The Lion King. The song's message of peace resonates as dolls from all corners of the world sing it in different languages, symbolizing unity and harmony. It’s all very cute and actually quite powerful, when you stop to think that the theme song was written way back in 1962 in the wake of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
Your entire boat ride will take around ten minutes. Each section you go through symbolizes different cultures, and you will see everything from native americans to europeans and even a few dolls representing Disney characters. Everyone will be singing the theme song, which will probably be stuck in your head for the remainder of the day. The dolls all look extremely cute and have that vintage feel about them which adds to the charm.
As you expect by now, this is a slow ride without anything crazy or scary happening. Unless you are afraid of dolls, then there are almost 300 of them singing their hearts out to you.
Will Kids enjoy it?
This is a very good ride to bring young children and toddlers, since the dolls are charming and have a lot of personality. The scenarios are pretty diverse, and the visual effects are never too aggressive to scare the little ones.
Older kids and teenagers might think it’s a little bit boring. I mean, this ride is all about dolls just singing and dancing, so they might not like it at all. This doesn’t mean you should not bring them here. I mean, you can’t go to Magic Kingdom and not visit this absolute landmark of theme parks. Relax, your kiddos will thank you (years) later.
