Practical Effects carry this old but fun Animal Kingdom classic

Trivia time: this was the first ever Pixar ride to open in any Disney park!

Now say hello to Flik and his pals while you still have the chance! Rumors are swirling that this attraction, located inside the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom, may vanish in the future to make way for something inspired by Zootopia. If the bugs in this 3D movie are already upset with us humans, just imagine their reaction now that they won't have a home.

This is one of my favorite 3D attractions when it comes to Walt Disney World. It’s Tough to be a bug is a 9 minute movie featuring Flik from A Bug’s Life and numerous charming insects showing up to tell you why they should make peace and be friends with humankind. There is even a spider, which might make things a little more complicated than needed, but she ends up being really cool and chill.

This attraction is a timeless classic that has been entertaining guests since Animal Kingdom opened its doors in 1998. The show itself is packed with cool things, featuring a variety of visual and practical effects. Guests can expect small jets of water to splash them, and even angry Black Widows dropping from the ceiling! While younger spectators might find it a bit scary, it's all part of the fun. With each insect on screen having its own unique trick up its sleeve, you'll always be in for a surprise.

The queue is also very charming, and you can see the images of sculpted animals in the Tree of Life

I do like that this attraction isn’t just about 3D effects, but practical effects as well. There are even animatronics on stage which interact with what’s happening on the screen. You also get to see the mentioned Black Widows dropping from the ceiling, and there is also a part where a stinkbug… stinks… and you can actually smell something bad in the theater.

There are also fog machines, water sprays and more. I love it when theaters try to mix the visuals with practical effects, those never get old. And the best part? I won't spoil it, but pay close attention to your chair at the very end of the show.
Flick and friends, you will all be missed *wipes away tear*. I guess humans did conquer the insects, after all. You should have listened to Hopper the grasshopper, man.

Will Kids enjoy it?

Most kids will find this attraction enjoyable, but young children might find it a bit scary. Each insect showcases something funny on the digital screen, often followed by a unique practical effect. For example, one insect may launch spider balls at you, creating a sensation of wind blowing on your face. However, some of these setpieces can be a bit intimidating or uncomfortable for the little ones, especially with giant spiders and wasps depicted on the screen.

The most intense moment occurs in the middle of the show when the insects become (rightfully) angry at us humans. At this point, the theater is engulfed in darkness, and large, menacing spider puppets descend from the ceiling. While it doesn't last long, it can certainly be enough to frighten young children and possibly make them cry.
