How Does Disney Celebrate the Chinese New Year?

Do you also celebrate the Chinese New Year?

At Shanghai Disney, but especially Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland, Chinese New Year is not just a festival, it's a magical celebration that goes beyond the parks. It brings joy and friendship moments to Disney cast members who are always backstage and in the heart of the city.

In Shanghai, the night shift cast members marked the Laba Festival with a gathering backstage. This tradition has been happening for three years already at the resort, and we can see that the cast members enjoy it with the Eight Treasure Congee which is a symbolic dish made of rice, millet, red dates, lotus seeds, nuts, dried fruits, and beans.

While they do this tradition, they take the opportunity to wish for health, luck, and prosperity in the upcoming year. It's a time for sharing Spring Festival plans and fostering bonds with their colleagues.

But the festivities don't end there.

Over 50 Volunteers from Shanghai Disney Resort spread the festival spirit by distributing gift bags to local children's hospitals and participating in Spring Festival traditions at retirement homes.

In Hong Kong, cast members decided to take the celebration to the streets, parading downtown with Disney magic in tow. Only 40 lucky cast members could join this prestigious event, since the rest of them were working, but it was a demonstration of good fortune for the year ahead.

The float was titled "Momentous Year of the Dragon Celebration," because it paid homage to the park's iconic nighttime spectacular and the recently reimagined Castle of Magical Dreams. From the very first design to its completion, the float took three months to come alive and it featured a Chinese New Year version of the show's song "Love the Memory."

Disney Cast member knows how to celebrate the Chinese New Year, whether behind the scenes or on the streets, spreading joy and creating unforgettable moments for everyone in the park!
