How is working on Norwegian Cruise Line?
We usually embark on a journey across the high seas here on Famvia as passengers, but how do employees and the crew experience that same voyage? We had the opportunity to chat with a crew member from Norwegian Cruise Line.
She was sharing some details and highlights from life aboard a cruise ship, so let’s start!
From the moment you step onboard, you are shocked by how massive the ships are. They are so captivating and different from a common workplace! The hallways are so long and they feel infinite, but navigating them becomes second nature after a few days.
Passenger's favorite restaurants are Cagnes and La Cucina, while crew members often opt for the Garden Cafe for their daily meals. When the sun is going down, the ship is still alive and full of activity. Guests usually head to the vibrant casino and bars, on the other hand, crew members go to the crew mess and dedicated bar areas.
The Mojito reigns as the most requested drink onboard, but crew members have their own designated bar area, offering a selection of beer, wine, and sodas to enjoy during downtime. An interesting fact is that the crew has a limit on how much they are allowed to drink. Makes sense.
Where do they sleep? Crew member have two stateroom options, the cozy single or a spacious double stateroom. Downtime varies depending on the schedule. On sea days, you have two 30-minute coffee breaks, lunchtime, and evening respites. Port days are amazing, because you usually just work for about 3 hours and have the chance to go visit the city where you are.
Here's a little insider info: Every ship has protection and training in case of any attack from pirates and every crew member is trained to be prepared for that. Crazy cool, right? My training would be to just grab an eye patch and fight back, yarr!
