Norwegian Cruise Line is Getting BIGGER

You read that right… BIGGER in all caps.

You know when a cruise line announces a new ship joining their fleet in the next year or so? Well, Norwegian took it up a notch. They've announced not just one, not two, but EIGHT new cruise ships joining their fleet over the next ten years. That's a whole lot of staterooms, margaritas, and pizza for the next decade. Sometimes I wonder if these cruise lines order ships as casually as they order Starbucks, it all sounds so easy!

This is all part of Norwegian’s strategy for the next decade, which also includes the construction of a multi-ship pier at Great Stirrup Cay, the Company’s private island destination in the Bahamas.

According to Norwegian Cruise Line’s official website, "This strategic new-ship order across all three of our award-winning brands provides for the steady introduction of cutting-edge vessels into our fleet and solidifies our long-term growth. It also allows us to significantly leverage our operating scale, strengthen our commitment to innovation and enhance our ability to offer our guests new products and experiences, all while providing opportunities to enhance the efficiency of our fleet,” said Harry Sommer, president of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.

“We are likewise excited with the addition of a new pier at Great Stirrup Cay to support our increased capacity in the Caribbean and multiple ships to call on the island, enhancing our guest experience and bringing seamless and reliable access to our private island year-round.”

So, what's the gist of it? It means Norwegian is gearing up for expansion, introducing new classes of ships across its three different brands. It's not just Norwegian Cruise Line expanding, but the entire holding company, which encompasses Norwegian Cruise Line itself, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. As a result, the eight new ships will be distributed across all three brands.

Norwegian Cruise Line is set to receive four brand-new ships, while Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises will each welcome two. Interested in knowing the likely dates of arrival?

  • Norwegian is scheduled to receive the new ships in 2030, 2032, 2034, and 2036.
  • Oceania Cruises anticipates their ships' arrival in 2027 and 2029.
  • Regent Seven Seas Cruises expects deliveries in 2026 and 2029.

Sorting out dates for these projects can be quite the challenge, especially considering the construction of such massive machines, which often leads to delays. Still, it’s good to know that more cruise ships will be out there navigating our beautiful oceans.

This is also good for us passengers, since it gives us more options and increases competition between the different cruise lines, which means more deals and better prices for us. Awesome.
