What Documents Do You Need for a Cruise?

How do you get ready for your Cruise?

Traveling on a cruise is often easier than flying, but you still need the right documents. You might ask, 'Hey, what documents do I need?' well, don't worry, Famvia have you covered, we'll address all your concerns today!

First and foremost, when embarking on a cruise that traverses international waters, proper identification is essential. For cruises originating and concluding in the same U.S. port, you have two options: you can use either your passport or your original birth certificate along with a driver's license. This applies to cruises to destinations such as Bermuda, The Bahamas, the Caribbean, or Alaska!

For a cruise that is not going to those places, you will need your passport to sail, and this document must be valid for at least six months on the last day of your voyage (just like when you are flying).

A boarding Pass is the next thing you need! Not a big surprise, huh? Many cruises now use electronic board passes on the mobile app so you probably won’t even need an “Official boarding pass”. However, there are still some cruises that require the physical boarding pass, so make sure you have it on embarkation day. The pass, whether in printed or digital form, must match the information on your ID or driver's license.

Luggage Tags, these are needed for any bags that you plan to leave with the porters at the Cruise terminal. The Cruise Line will email them to you before embarkation day and you can find them on your Cruise App account once you complete your check-in! Print them and make sure they are well connected to your luggage.

The Health Form is filled prior to sailing, and Cruises will require you to fill out a health questionnaire. It’s usually done on the Cruise Line app a day or two before your cruise day.

Last but not least, because it’s actually really important, VISAS (if necessary)! Some destinations included in your cruise itinerary may require a visa for entry. In such cases, it's important to reach out to your agency or the Cruise Line customer service well before your trip to ensure you have the necessary documentation.

Oh yeah, there are also swimsuits, sunscreens, and everything else, but you probably know about those items by now. If you need any help setting up your next trip - or even if you need to know what to bring to your awesome cruise vacation - make sure to send us a message. We will do our best to reply as soon as possible and help you out!
