Attention: Expect WAY more cruises in the next decade

Who would have thought, people really like traveling on board luxurious ships, enjoying free food and just spending their time staring at the ocean without doing anything else. Wait, not everything else, maybe you can get up from your lounge chair once in a while to get a massage or grab a new slice of pizza. Sounds like torture, right?

The Cruise industry reached a new record this past year according to the State of the Cruise Industry report, with two million more passengers cruising in 2023 versus 2019. That shows a 7% increase in the total number of cruises globally, bringing the overall number to 31.7 million passengers. 

That's fantastic news for some of our beloved Cruise Lines, such as Royal Caribbean, Disney, Princess, Carnival, and many more. It signifies our desire to get out and have fun, especially after the pandemic forced most cruises worldwide to shut down for a couple of years. It was undoubtedly a challenging period for many companies, but now that everything is returning to "normal," people are eager to venture out, discover new destinations, and simply enjoy themselves aboard these incredible ships.

The Industry is only growing

Here are a few interesting facts:

• Expedition Cruises experienced a significant 71% increase. These cruises prioritize the destination over the cruise experience itself. Typically conducted on smaller vessels, they transport guests to specific locations. For instance, a smaller ship might take guests to explore a particular area in Alaska or embark on a land expedition to photograph polar bears. This is an Expedition Cruise.
• The number of first time cruises increased by 27% compared to two years ago.
• Basically every major cruise company showed positive financial results in the last months.
• The Cruise Industry is set to reach new records in 2024, and grow even bigger in the next decade.

It’s cool to see that a lot of people are opting to go out on cruises to relax and have fun. This is all great news for all of us. Cruises are getting more and more advanced as time goes on, with some of them featuring indoor cinemas, roller coasters and even go-kart tracks. Some of them are basically cities at this point! I remember the first time I set foot on a cruise in 2007 and Wi-Fi was a distant dream. It also helps that cruises are getting cheaper, and we can travel for affordable deals nowadays and enjoy some really amazing deals from time to time.
